The National 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York City honors the legacy of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Each year, thousands of visitors tour the Lower Manhattan site, and dignitaries from around the globe attend commemoration events on the anniversary every September.
By the nature of what it represents, the Memorial & Museum often finds itself targeted by threat actors. “As we have grown the museum and become a larger organization with more employees, more staff, and more visitors, we have also become a larger target,” said Steve Hey, Senior Vice President of Information Technology, Infrastructure, and Operations.
The Memorial & Museum realizes the significant responsibility it is to keep the organization ahead of cyberthreats with holistic threat monitoring, detection, and response, rapid access to security experts, and continuous threat hunting.
It’s this understanding that makes the team at the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum – Hey; Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer Nancy Morrissey; Vice President of Network, Security and Technical Operations Eric Valensoy; and Network Engineer Dwight Burgos – Taegis™ Titans.
How critical is it for the Memorial & Museum to have robust security?
Morrissey: “We have security because of our profile. We know the data we have is important to keep private.”
Valensoy: “It is a constant battle between the adversaries and the ones who are defending the network. Having a trusted and reliable partner with the tools and with the expertise is critically important for securing our network.”
How has Secureworks® helped your internal security team?
